Brazilian Guitar Quartet

Winner of the 2011 Latin Grammy Award for “Best Classical Album”, the Brazilian Guitar Quartet (Quarteto Brasileiro de Violões) established themselves as one of the world’s leading guitar ensembles. Their unique instrumentation, which combines two regular six-string with two eight-string guitars, enabled them to masterfully explore a repertoire rarely heard in the realm of classical guitar, such as Bach’s Orchestral Suites or Albéniz’s Suite Iberia. Along their over two decades of activity, the group performed extensively in four continents, receiving ecstatic audience responses, garnering rave reviews, and meeting sold-out halls. Luiz Mantovani was a member of the BGQ between 2004 and 2015, having recorded three CDs with them for Delos Productions: Suite Iberia (2006), Brazilian Guitar Quartet plays Villa-Lobos (2011) and Spanish Dances (2014).

The Brazilians played with one mind, without losing the central pulse, and conveyed all the mystery, joy, passion and pride in this music . . . This was magical music making.
